This weekend I ventured to Midtown’s POST on the east side of Detroit to satisfy my creative and curious desires! POST is part retail store, part wood-crafting space, and host to creative workshops.
After visiting POST’s retail space earlier this year, I looked into a workshop they were hosting to learn screen printing. The workshop peaked my interest with the idea of creating a warholesque image of my dog Bingo. The class that I took was to learn how to screen print a portrait of your pet. The cost of the four hour workshop was ninety dollars. The instructor was talented and thorough. We began by emailing images of our pets to allow them to make screen of the pet’s image. Layering the colors and images requires three or more prints. By the end of the class, each student completed a dozen prints. All supplies and a helpful booklet were provided along with instructors help. As I began to put the layers together, I understood the process.
I highly recommend checking out POST and they have many class offerings. On September 22nd, there is a fall celebration in midtown. Over 25 community shops, businesses, and restaurants will offer shopping trunk-shows, music, and kid-friendly activities.
